The Tamil Tigers, who have been waging a terrorist war against the people of Sri Lanka, have massacred over 10,000 innocent civilians, of all races, including women, children and infants. These civilians have been brutally murdered in cold blood under a pretence of a 'Freedom Struggle'- see 'What are they Fighting For?'. It is estimated that the Tamil Terrorists collect a staggering US$ 5-10 million per month, mostly from Tamil expatriates living in Western Countries. The Terrorists have also been globally linked with drug trafficking, welfare defraud and many other illegal and underhand activities to increase their revenue.

LTTE are claiming 27% of the country for 7% of the population. |
The Government of Sri Lanka is forced into spending a colossal 20% of the country's GDP to protect the sovereignty of our land. Thousands of courageous military personnel have given up their lives to protect our country from these barbaric terrorists. Most of the military personnel are from economically deprived families. Due to the shortage of funds available to the Government, the families of military personnel receive little financial compensation for the loss of a loved one.
The Sri Lankan Defence Fund was established to provide financial assistance to families of military personnel who have been lost or permanently disabled in the battlefield. The funds are purely used for welfare of the families of military personnel. No arms or ammunition is bought with these funds.
All Sri Lankan expatriates have a moral duty to contribute economically towards the welfare of these courageous men and women, who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of protecting the unity of our country. The benefits of their sacrifice will be reaped by all, especially the expatriate community, who will always have a place to call 'home'. If not for their bravery, our island will be under the control of Prabhakaran and his terrorist organisation. During what is widely believed to be the last stages of the fighting to eliminate terrorism permanently from Sri Lanka, casualties are occurring. Please donate what ever amount you can afford towards the Defence Fund and thereby, show appreciation for the sacrifices being made for our Sri Lanka.

Also, please see SAHANODA FOUNDATION - National Scheme for the welfare of families of persons serving in the Armed Forces. The purpose of this scheme is to create an awareness, among the general population, of the courage and dedication displayed by the members of the armed services in their efforts to safeguard the territorial integrity and the unitary state of the country, and to provide for the welfare of their families. Those serving in the armed forces are today the focus of attention, as the task of extinguishing the fires of terrorism and restoring peace to the country rests with them. There are many who have sacrificed their lives, and others who have suffered physical and mental disabilities in the course of their duties. Some who have deserted the forces, and the need for additional recruits, are other problems facing the country. The Sahanoda Foundation has assumed responsibility for the planning and implementation of a scheme to deal with these problems. In this task, it appeals for assistance and the involvement of individuals and organisations such as state institutions, national and foreign non-governmental organisations, the business community etc.
Thank you.
