Rt. Hon. Tony Blair15 October 1997.
Dear Mr Blair,
I am sure that you are aware of the appalling incident that took place on 15 October 1997 in Sri Lanka, when a terrorist organization called Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) exploded a massive truck bomb in Central Colombo. As a result of this cowardly act, eighteen innocent civilians were killed, and more than one hundred were injured. A number of commercial buildings were also destroyed. Six of the injured were British nationals, who were all injured by flying glass from the force of the explosion. As a British national, I was appalled to discover that not only
these terrorists legally operate in the UK, but they have their International head office
and number of other offices in London. It seems they also raise most of their funds in the
UK. All of their press releases bear the following UK address:
LTTE International Secretariat, 211 Katherine Road, London E6 1BU, United Kingdom.
By allowing these terrorists to be based in the UK and make press releases from a UK address, this country is being implicated in the terrorist activities of the LTTE against civilians of Sri Lanka, and other nationals who are visiting Sri Lanka.
I applaud your decision to apply high ethical standards when deciding government policies. What I fail to understand is why you let these terrorists, who are at the other end of the ethics spectrum, operate legally in the UK. The money these terrorists raise in the UK are being used to buy bullets and explosives which kill and injure innocent civilians, some of whom happen to be British nationals. United States has taken a belated, but never the less, a courageous decision to ban fund raising for the LTTE on their soil. I urge you to see behind the mask of this terrorist organization, ban their fund raising activities in the UK and expel all their members immediately.
UK Residents:
If you would like to stop the LTTE raising funds in the UK to buy bullets and explosives to kill innocent civilians in Sri Lanka, please feel free to copy this letter and send it to your MP, Home Secretary or the Prime Minister after adding your name and address.
