Two Toddlers And Their Mothers Among The Dead

A Two and half year old girl, Ishara Seneviratne was among the victims from the LTTE bomb exploded on Sunday in Kandy. She died at the Neuro Surgical Intensive Care Unit a few minutes after admission. The mother of Ishara had died on the spot. Both her father and brother, Harsha Gayan Seneviratne (7) were reported to be in a very critical condition. Harsha Gayan was at the Intensive Care Unit and Mr. Seneviratne was taken to the operation theatre for an urgent surgery.

Also among the dead was a woman and her two and a half year old son. Her other son is in a critical condition at the ICU of the Kandy hospital.

In addition to Mr. Seneviratne five other seriously injured persons had been taken for surgeries. They are Sagarika Priyadarshani, Magilin Nona, Kusum Amarasena and two Women Police Constables namely Dilahani and Swarnalatha, according to the informations available. Most of the victims of the blast are reported to be devotees who had come for the Morning Pooja at the Maligawa from Ehaliyagoda, Ratnapura.

It seems that three of the suicide bombers had got down from the truck while it was proceeding towards the main entrance. The terrorist who drove the vehicle had jumped out with a gun in hand and attempted to enter the Maligawa. However, on seeing a policeman he had withdrawn, and the bomb went off killing him and the other three terrorists as well.
