LTTE tiger rebels accused of Child-Killings

At a conference held recently at the Ministry of Defense to discuss matters raised by the Amnesty International, the Police authorities accused LTTE rebels of slaughtering infants and children as young as 18 months old in reprisal attacks on Sinhalese villages. The police said "The youngest child killed by the LTTE during attacks on villages in Mahakalugollawa, Kegalu-Oya and Siyambalanduwa, on November 2, 1995 was a boy of 18 months."

Two other children aged 13 years and 15 were also killed by the LTTE when they attacked another village in Moneragala on November 2, 1995.

Rarely in modern human history has such suffering been inflicted without any humanity or compassion on a whole nation based purely on communal hatred. The Tamil Tiger terrorists, perhaps, the deadliest guerrilla force in the world, had been active since 1980, for 17 years of carnage that not even innocent civilians been spared, even fellow Tamils.

Since the 1980s, Mr.Prabaharan, the sole leader of the group, has acted ruthlessly against any potential rivals. Victims were tied to lampposts and shot, and then left to be discovered in the morning. Within Jaffna, Mr Prabaharan rules with terror over a fanatical force. Dissenters are killed or languish in underground cells. They harbor a powerful fear; they know peace would destroy them exposing Mr.Prabaharan to the dangers politicians face. (The Guardian (UK)-Friday June 2 1995.)

As the Sri Lankan government embarks on an offensive against the northern stronghold of Tamil Tigers, the separatist rebels are striking back with savagery. In number of incidents the innocent villagers were hacked to death by rebel guerrillas, bringing the total number killed more than 2000 of Sinhalese villagers and 1800 of Tamil villagers, the military said.(Ref. Tiger women kill children in new village massacre -The Daily Telegraph -Friday October 27, 1995)
