An open letter to the President of Sri Lanka
Her Excellency Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga
President of the Republic of Sri Lanka.
Your Excellency,
Your father brought about legislation to make Sinhala the official language of Sri Lanka. Now you are about to bring legislation to disintegrate the land of Sri Lanka.
By deleting Article 2 of the present constitution and also Article 76 abdicating the powers of Parliament to an unspecified number of regions, you will go down in history as the person who destroyed the unitary status of the country and brought about its eventual disintegration.
You are playing into the hands of racist Tamil politicians, for some unknown reasons, without realising the dangers of your actions.
You made a blunder by appointing Vasantha Raja as head of Rupavahini. That blunder could be rectified, but if you prepare the ground for the eventual disintegration of the country no one on earth will be able to rectify that.
If there are any genuine grievances of any ethnic group, they can be solved and must be solved by democratic means of good governance and not by disintegrating the country.
