Toronto streets have now become a battle ground for Tamil Tiger youth. Innocent Sri Lankans dare not utter words such as VVT, or AK Kannan, for these are the premier LTTE sponsored Tamil gangs that are operating in Metropolitan Toronto. Toronto, which can proudly boast of its world class police service has been left undefended, as even the police cannot seem to "break" these Tamil gangs. For any police service to function properly it requires the assistance of relevant communities. Yet, only a few Tamils have stepped forward to help. This is not because they support the Tiger gangs or their cause, it is merely due to fear. The fear that arrives with the words, VVT and AK Boys. For these gangs have a well known reputation among Torontonians for there brutality and effective retaliation when the need arises. The gangs carry AK-47s, shot guns, hand guns, and machetes, they even supply these weapons at exorbitant prices to other criminal oriented youths. These gangs constantly combat each other for "drug turf". Yet, they seem to have an understanding at the higher levels. Only the lower echelon of gang members seem to battle each other. Those who wield power in the hierarchy work for a much greater cause, which is of course Eelam, or in other terms, for an unitary state within the Socialist Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka.
One might wonder how the Tamil youth seem to get there hands on high powered automatic weapons and drugs. The weapons and drugs are supplied by Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, who have vast international resources and networks with other criminal organizations. The Tigers supply weapons to all Tamil gangs, in turn these gangs act as drug pushers, henchmen and even lower order arms dealers. The monetary returns are forwarded to the Tamil Tigers, who in appreciation looks after the gang leaders for their co-operation. But, the lower echelon Tigers that create the chaos are not given money, yet they are merely in this game for the glory of being a "gangster". These Tiger "gangsters" raise millions of dollars each year. Sergeant Paul Clerk of the Asian Crime Task Force in Scarborough said that up to one million dollars a month is being raised here for the Tamil Tiger terrorist in Sri Lanka.
Recently these Tiger gangs have rocked the city of Toronto with drive-by shootings, hired hits and even kidnappings among the Sri Lankan community. Innocent Tamils have also got caught in the crossfire, the most recent innocent casualty is a Engineering Student at the prestigious University of Waterloo and his classmate. Most gang related incidents go unreported because of the fear of reprisal. One cannot blame the law enforcement agencies for the actions of these terrorist and their glory seeking associates, the blame falls on the laps of the Tamil community. It is time for the Tamil community to unite in strength, and assist the Canadian Government to halt the criminal aggression of the "Canadian Tiger".
